Tricorona and Fairwater launch GreenSea carbon offsetting service for marine transportation
2008.11.27 Fairwater Marine and Tricorona announced today the launch of GreenSea, www.GreenSea.se, a web-based service that enables shippers to offer carbon neutral sea freight based on offsets from UN-approved renewable energy projects.
“Awareness of climate issues has become very widespread, but the shipping sector has to date lacked straightforward mechanisms for offsetting their climate impact. We have now launched a simple, robust tool to calculate and offset climate impact from sea freight,” says Jan Risinger at insurance broker Fairwater Marine in Stockholm.
”It is crucial for the climate that everyone reduces their carbon emissions, and plans their transport to minimise climate impact,” says Per Egstam, CEO at Tricorona Climate Partner, a world leader in carbon offsetting. ”It is equally important to take responsibility for those emissions that remain. We at Tricorona provide offsets of the highest available quality, from CDM projects registered by the UN under the Kyoto Protocol, and this focus on quality – which is repeatedly recognised in independent surveys of our industry – guarantees Fairwater a first-class offsetting solution.”
In addition to Fairwater and Tricorona, the main sponsors behind GreenSea are shipping company Österströms and insurance provider Markel International.
